Dox Naahlx dip Niye'e Maintenance and Revitalization Society
Dedicated to the maintenance and revitalization of Gitxsan language and cultural practices.
Society History
Dox naahlx dip niye’e Maintenance and Revitalization Society was founded in 2019 as a small home daycare dedicated to Gitxsan language immersion for children aged 0–5. What began as a grassroots effort to nurture the next generation of Gitxsan speakers has since grown into a broader language and cultural revitalization movement.
Since 2022, the society has expanded to develop comprehensive adult language programming and curriculum aimed at bringing learners to an intermediate level of Gitxsan fluency. Alongside language work, the society has revived traditional cultural practices such as Chilkat weaving—restoring a Gitxsan art form that had been dormant for nearly a century—and steamed bentwood workshops, which help preserve another endangered skill within the Nation.
In 2025, the society launched its Family Language Program, recognizing that true language vitality begins in the home. By supporting parents and families to use and transmit Gitxsan in daily life, Dox naahlx dip niye’e continues to strengthen the intergenerational threads of language and culture that define Gitxsan identity.

Programs
We focus on community-based programs that support language and cultural revitalization, including:

Adult Language Program
Now entering our third year of teaching the adult language program, we are focused on completing and packaging our curriculum over the next two years. Rooted in Second Language Acquisition and guided by the “Where Are Your Keys” method, our program is designed to make language speaking engaging and effective. Once finalized, we look forward to sharing this resource and supporting other communities who wish to establish adult immersion programs.

Family Language Program
This is our first year implementing the Family Language Program. Each parent or family develops a personalized Family Language Plan. Every week, participants come together to connect with a language speaker, engage with other language-learning families, and receive support in reaching their weekly language goals.

Arts Programs
We have done a few workshops focussed revitalizing and preserving traditional arts including Chilkat Weaving and Steamed Bentwood Boxes. Currently, we do not have any workshops planned in the neat future.
